{"id":2167,"date":"2016-04-13T21:54:56","date_gmt":"2016-04-13T20:54:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/childandfamilyblog.com\/?post_type=snippet&#038;p=2167"},"modified":"2024-05-11T22:33:59","modified_gmt":"2024-05-11T21:33:59","slug":"male-cohabiting-partner-active","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/childandfamilyblog.com\/male-cohabiting-partner-active\/","title":{"rendered":"A male cohabiting partner active in family activities benefits adolescents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A study of 111 inner-city African American families in New York has found that when a male cohabiting partner is active in daily family activities and at the same time provides firm parenting, adolescent children are less likely to exhibit behaviours such as withdrawal, depression and anxiety.<\/p>\n<p>In the research led by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/~psych\/?Page=faculty\/Forehand.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rex Forehand<\/a> at the University of Vermont, the adolescents reported on the male cohabiting partner\u2019s involvement and parenting; biological mothers reported on the adolescents\u2019 problem behaviours.
